Abstract

The article analyzes the etymology, semantic field, and use of the English terms prompt and instruction in contemporary artificial intelligence discourse. The purpose of the study is to demonstrate the linguistic motivation for rendering these concepts in Kazakh through the word nūsqau and to determine the place and limitations of this designation within the terminological system. The research material includes definitions from explanatory and etymological dictionaries of English, data from the explanatory dictionary of the Kazakh language, terms approved by the Republican terminology Commission, and examples of usage in the field of artificial intelligence. The analysis shows that the meanings of the word nūsqau, associated with guidance, direction, indication, advice, and prompting action, correspond both to the prompting and text-based task meaning of the concept prompt and to the semantics of direction, command, and instruction inherent in the concept instruction. At the same time, the study demonstrates that although the words prompt and impromptu have related etymological roots, their modern semantic fields are distinct. The findings of the study are proposed as a recommendation aimed at systematizing Kazakh-language artificial intelligence terminology on the basis of the internal resources of the national language.
